The “Katsu Yoshida in the Present” will start exhibiting.
Katsu Yoshida was born in Hyogo, Japan in 1939. He studied design at Osaka Art College.
During the 1970’s he started working as a freelance illustrator and created many illustrations for magazine and book covers.
Some of his well-known works are covers of “Sniper” magazine and airline company ANA’s in flight magazine “Kingdom of wings.”
His work always left a strong impact on viewers.

The paintings he drew in private were erotic humans, rice fields, or still objects such as fruits. Within his dynamic paintings, the energy of life can be felt.
Through his paintings his view of wanting to understand. The true meaning of things can be seen.

Kahitsukan, Kyoto Museum of contemporary Art started exhibiting Katsu Yoshida since 2009, but unfortunately he past away in 2011 at the age of 72.
We exhibit about 50 pieces of his works including his private paintings.

Katsu Yoshida Chronology -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Born in Hyogo, Japan in1939. His real name, Katsuhiko.
Graduated from the Osaka School of Art in 1960 and worked as a designer and art director.
Since 1974, he began working as a freelance illustrator, he has been known simply as Katsli.
Katsu subsequently took the world of illustration by storm with his unrivaled powers ofexpression and talent. Since 1980s, his career and works exhibit several phases which are known by their key thematic concerns, e.g.,"flesh", "music", "drawings", "massmedia", and"Bahama-Caribbean"
When he created the works "1997 Flower", he shifted to a style that appears more abstract dealing with the theme of "060" .
He plays an active part in mass media including the work of the front cover of the magazine
"Tsubasa no Okoku" over a span of 17 years.
'iVith their fruits now highly acclaimed as paintings, his activities spanning a period of 30 years can no longer be confined to the realm of simple illustration.
In March 2005, he moved to Sasayama city (Hyogo) from Tokyo where he lived for 37 years.
2009, his solo exhibition was held at Kahitsukan . Kyoto Museum of Contemporary Art after
an interval of 8 years.
